Social Software collaborates with others to create art that explores the role of software in culture. We understand social software as any system that organizes behavior, coordinates people, or structures interaction. We create visual art, installations, performances, videos, text, publications, and open-source software.
We’re interested in people and the ways that technology brings us together and pushes us apart. How do the systems and rules we live within affect our relationships and communities?
As our lives become increasingly automated, we use the word “software” to think about the rules and systems shaping us. While these systems feel opaque, software has an inherent malleability that can be revealed when we misuse, subvert, reject, or reimagine the tools around us. We believe software is culture, software is art, and software is social.
Current focus areas for our collaborations include accessible technology, open source communities, AI, data, and generative systems.
